My Hel Project

The Black Cat is sacred to Hel, so I chose to knit a washcloth with a cat design out of black yarn. I found the pattern online. (Notice, I didn't want a "Halloween cat", so this is a "proper, posed" cat design.) It's hard to make out the cat design, but it was done with knit and purl stitches.

Eve's corrispondences

Flower or Herb: I can't imagine a more appropriate herb than Adam and Eve Root, which is said to bring love and happiness (

Colors: Crimson. Biblically, this color is used to describe sin (Isaiah 1:18) -- appropriate, since Eve is credited with original sin. It is also a color which means life blood, such as giving birth; and sacrifice, like being exiled from paradise.

Animal: The easy choice here is a serpent, the animal which supposedly tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. This animal should then remind women to look beyond the "easy, smooth talker" and search the facts for themselves. In addition, according to Ted Andrews' book "Animal Speak," snakes represent knowledge.

Stone or Gem: Amber. According to, this stone will help in decision making.

Patronage of Eve

* animals
* apples
* apple trees
* tailors

Prayer to Eve

Eve, Goddess of life, Mother of all,
Help me to love my children despite the heartache they can cause.
Help me to teach them to love each other in a way your sons never learned.
I ask for your guidance, also, to hear only truth and to remove false-talkers from my life.
Thank you for your gift of life.
So mote it be.

Eve the Goddess

Eve is another "Mother Goddess," similar to Mother Mary yet very different. Where Mother Mary is considered the mother of God, Eve is the mother of humanity. According to the Bible, she suffered. A lot. One of her sons killed another. As a mother, I can't imagine losing a child -- especially not at the hands of another of my children. Her pain and anguish must have been great.

Eve is important to tailors, which is nice since I like to sew. I plan to call upon her to help as I sew gifts for others for the upcoming holiday season. Although I don't practice it, I also believe Eve would be useful to call upon when preforming sex magic because of the Biblical result of eating from the Tree of Forbidden Knowledge (that being banishment from the garden, as well as make sex a shameful act). As mentioned at the school site, Eve would also be a great Goddess to call upon when taking a risk, but also for standing up for that risk. Unlike Adam, Eve didn't "pass the blame" (as much!) and has been blamed since that time. As women, we can learn a lot by her example. As I mentioned before, I belive Eve can be called upon for help with understanding our children. We may not agree with the actions our children take, but it should never stop us from accepting them as people -- or loving them, either. Finally, I can call upon Eve for help with animals. With six pets running around my home, I will ask that she would keep them safe!

Craft Swap

I like crafts. Not just "the" craft, but sewing, knitting, crochet, clay, cross-stitch, art, the whole gambit. (Heck, I think cooking is a craft!) I like the idea that we're able to put our energy into something and change it and make it better. Because of that love of crafting, I spend time searching at

One of the cool things about Craftser is the swaps. Now, my kid is a teenager. Having mom make her stuff is "lame" and will get me the eye-roll every time! (Unless it's something she wants, ya know?) So craft swaps are good because I get to make stuff that SOMEONE will appreciate. Anyway, here's what my swap buddy sent to me. I think it's appropriate because it is all around the theme of the Spritual Mother in us all.

This is a picture of Mother Mary. I plan to hang it in my bedroom for a little extra protection. Or maybe the living room.

I love the idea of keeping "my heart" in a sacred space. Isn't that what moms do?

This, though, was my favorite. This journal was created for me! It has the High Priestess on the cover and the page markers are AWESOME!

I feel so blessed to have received such an amazingly thoughtful package!

Which tarot card are you?

You are The Hermit

Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.

The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration,hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.

The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.
